Hello everyone! I’m Kayra Oguz. I am from Turkey but I currently live in England where I’m studying IB at Sevenoaks School. I have always been very aware of the importance and intrigued by the idea of getting to interact and integrate with my international peers while learning and exploring new subjects and areas of knowledge. My hobbies consist of dancing, theatre, reading books and watching movies of different genres as well as researching various areas of knowledge including artificial intelligence and its applications, which is why I have joined this ambassador program. Additionally I have just started a new club to compete in a biotechnology competition called International Genetically Engineered Machine competition (iGEM) which I will be leading with a couple of my student peers, as of right now we are working on recruiting team members and finding project ideas and I think the ambassador program might help guide me through the process.

As an AI Scholar, I had an incredible experience in the Inspirit AI course. It was my first collaborative and interactive project and experience in artificial intelligence. My instructors were Adeesh Goel, Peter Li, Harry Sha and Akshay Jagadeesh whom I can’t thank enough for feeding my enthusiasm and keeping me interested and wanting to do more and more in the area of knowledge. As a project I worked on the Medical Imaging project which mainly outlined the real world impacts of combining machine learning and medical imaging techniques. This project was particularly exciting for me as I am mostly interested in the applications and effects of AI in medicine and sciences especially biology.

In this blog I will be writing about the influence of technology and artificial intelligence on a current and significant concern: COVID-19. I will be wriiting in-depth articles on how AI is affecting the pandemic that we are suffering from globally. As both AI and the pandemic are on-going events with great significance, it would be interesting to further look into this combination. Some of the roles played by AI during this time are predictions and detections of outbreaks, rates and trends, analysis and visualisation of spreading viruses and decision making of effective treatments and drug discovery. During this pandemic, AI isn’t only seen in healthcare but also in the telecommunication field. More and more people are relying on telecoms and AI to keep in touch and stay connected during the pandemic. These are only a couple of examples for what I will be covering in my blogs during this program.

Written about a present-day global pandemic, my blogs will reflect the latest news and trends and emerging issues on this situation. Therefore, I encourage anyone and everyone to read them to be kept up to date and to be knowledgeable about the situation as I find awareness and knowledge on everyday happenings is extremely important for everyone that we are sharing our living and learning environment with.

By writing a series of blog posts on this issue, I am hoping to raise awareness and inform readers on how it is being handled with the help of continuous improvement of technology and artificial intelligence.
